“B” THE CHANGE!

Camila Julien - Regional Manager of Ocaquatics • February 1, 2023

Ocaquatics Swim School encourages everyone to be the change they wish to see in the world. In January we reflected on changes that could make a difference for our Miami community, OcaFamilies, team members and planet! Our reflections included:

  • Health and wellness inequities
  • 2023 “One Word” activity
  • Community gardens

Recently at our B Corp conference, we were challenged to acknowledge the inequities of health and wellness in our community and in our swimming program. At Ocaquatics, we are aware of the disparity in drowning statistics in some racial and ethnic groups. ( , CDC ). The goal we have set for ourselves is to find new ways to increase access to our swimming program for children who otherwise would not be able to learn to swim. We were also honored to participate in a diversity workshop on Martin Luther King, Jr. day to enhance our own learning and improve our diversity initiatives.

Our leadership team also started the new year choosing “One Word!” to help each person set the tone for 2023. This word represents something you want to improve. This exercise is a great way to motivate change in your year. For many people, it’s easier than making resolutions, because it’s a single word that focuses you and moves you toward your purpose. Our words included

  • Invest
  • Perspective
  • Discipline
  • Growth
  • Consistency

For our 29th birthday Ocaquatics is planting a community garden at our Eureka location! Everyone is invited on February 12, 2023 from 2-5 PM to help us celebrate Ocaquatics’ birthday and help us show the Earth some love as we create our community garden. Join us as we make a difference together!

This February we also invite you to write a note to your favorite instructors and leave it in their Valentine’s Day box! Also, if you donate $5 to the Hope Floats Foundation, you will receive a heart with your family's name on it and it will be displayed at your location .

We invite you to join us as we strive to “B” The Change! As a FORCE for GOOD, we can’t wait to continue to impact and educate our community together.
