The Perfect First Step: Why Parents Love Our Water Programs

Your baby's first experiences in water set the foundation for a lifetime of water safety, confidence, and joy. But it's about so much more than just swimming: creating shared moments of discovery, building trust, and having fun together.

At Ocaquatics, our Parent and Me program is designed for parents who want their babies to learn essential water safety skills while enjoying quality bonding time in the water. Your participation isn't just encouraged—it's essential. You'll learn water safety techniques you can practice at home, and your baby gets the comfort of having you right there while they explore this exciting new world.

What makes this special: Your baby gets individualized attention in a small, intimate class setting (just 3-6 parent-child pairs), warm water maintained at a comfortable 90°F year-round, and a curriculum specifically designed for developmental milestones from 6 months through 3 years. Plus, you're building memories and bonding moments that your baby will benefit from long after they master swimming skills.

More Than Swimming: Water Play That Stimulates Development and Brings Joy

Every class features interactive games and songs that make learning feel like play, making your baby build water comfort while mastering essential skills without even realizing they're working. These aren't rigid drills; they're gentle water movements specifically designed to support physical development through natural play. The sensory experience—the warm water temperature, the movement, the sounds—stimulates your baby's developing brain while you provide quality one-on-one attention in a focused, supportive environment. It's learning disguised as joy.

Parent and Me Tot Ages 13-36 months

  • More independent movement with your support.
  • Building water confidence through play and positive experiences.

Parent and Me Plus Ages 15-36 months (Already Comfortable in Water)

  • Longer water sequences.
  • Building endurance and independence.
  • Your child gaining confidence as a "real swimmer."

Parent and Me Super Ages 20-36 months (Confident Swimmers)

  • Advanced breathing techniques.
  • Swimming longer distances.
  • Preparation for transitioning to classes without a parent in the water.

What Parents Ask About Parent and Me Lessons

  • At what age can my baby start swim lessons?

Our Parent and Me program begins at 6 months old. At this age, babies are ready to explore water safely with a parent's support. We focus on water acclimation and building positive water experiences rather than formal swimming instruction. Every baby develops at their own pace, and our instructors tailor lessons to your baby's comfort level and developmental stage.

  • Do I have to get in the water with my baby?

Yes, parent participation is a core part of our Parent and Me program. For the first 4 baby levels, an adult family member accompanies your child in the pool. This serves multiple purposes: your baby feels secure with you present, you learn water safety techniques you can practice at home, and the one-on-one interaction creates a strong bonding experience. Once your child progresses to our Super Baby program (typically around 24-30 months), they transition to swimming with an instructor while you observe from the side.

  • How long are the classes?

Class duration is structured specifically for young children's attention spans and learning needs. Exact length may vary slightly by program level, but all classes are designed to keep your baby engaged without overwhelming them.

  • What if my baby cries or seems scared?

This is completely normal and expected. Our instructors are trained in infant and toddler behavior and know how to build trust gradually. We never force a baby into the water or push them beyond their comfort level. Some babies take a few classes to warm up—and that's okay. Your reassuring presence and the instructor's patient, gentle approach help build confidence over time. Most babies who start hesitant become excited swimmers within a few weeks.

  • How often should my baby have lessons?

We recommend that all of our families swim at least twice a week for progress, when possible. This allows your baby to build comfort progressively. Many families eventually add a second class per week as their baby becomes more confident. We'll help you find the schedule that works best for your family.

  • What if we need to miss a class?

Life happens! We offer flexible makeup lessons so your baby can stay on track with their progression. You can schedule a makeup class that fits your schedule through our app.

  • Are your instructors trained to work with babies?

Yes. Our instructors receive extensive training in water safety, age-appropriate teaching methods, and infant/toddler development. They understand how babies learn, how to build trust, and how to create positive water experiences. Many of our instructors specialize in working with young children and are passionate about introducing babies to water confidently and safely. All instructors are certified in CPR/Water Safety Instructor/ Lifeguarding.

  • What's included in the Parent and Me Plus and Super programs?

Parent and Me Plus is for children 15-36 months who are already comfortable swimming 3 feet independently. You remain in the water as support, but your child works on longer swimming distances and independent breathing. Parent and Me Super is for children 20-36 months with the same comfort level, but with more focus on separation anxiety and independence, while still having you present in the pool.

  • When is my baby ready to move to the next level?

Our instructors monitor your baby's progress and confidence level continuously. They'll let you know when your baby shows readiness to progress to the next level. Progression is based on skill development and comfort, not age alone. Every baby develops at their own pace, and we never rush the process.

  • Can I observe my baby's progress?

For the Parent and Me program levels, you're in the water with your baby, so you're experiencing their progress firsthand. For Super Baby (independent) classes, we have observation areas where you can watch your child learn and grow. Many parents love seeing their little ones' accomplishments and confidence-building. We also complete progress reports for all of our levels periodically, and they are available on the app for the families to see. If they have any questions, we are here to help.
